Hello, I am new to the forum. Currently have 1998 audi a4 1.8t quattro sport, with rear swaybar, exhaust and chip tuning + some weight reductions. It handles pretty good but the weight distribution isnt that great. So thats where I figured I could keep my audi as a daily driver and get something really light for track/autocross/hillclimbs/mountain runs. I am currently a college student so i cant afford no m3 or porsche 911. After thinking about miatas, rx7s, s2ks etc i figured i wanted to be diffirent. 2002 was a favorable choice: it has the apporopriet drivetrain, its also very light and last but not least its German :D Of course the car is very old which would impose quite a few problems. Now the question is what would it take to make a 2002 into 150-200hp mount climbing car with really good suspension and braking!??!?

P.S. how much does a 2002 exactly weigh?

Welcome!

2300 lbs!

Do a forum search for S14 conversion or M2, and also M20 conversion. S14 is an E30 M3 motor, good for 200+hp. M20 is the baby six (I think).

Cheers,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P

Regarding your suspension and braking, check out www.bmw2002.com . This should give you an idea of what you are up for. With the engine, Ray is right - s14 or m20 (which is a baby six ray :-P) are great swaps and you can get great power out of either. Alternativly if you want to stick with the m10 then to get 150-200hp you will either have to rebuild the engine with higher compression, head work, a hot cam, twin carbs or ITB's, get a header, etc. or you can rebuild with low compression and get a turbo (which will give more than you want)

Personally i think the s14 is the way to go :-)

If you want to do hillclimbs and rally stuff then your A4 is the perfect beast for the job. Well as long as its a quattro and not a front wheel drive version that is. Get a hold of www.2bennett.com and put some money into your A4, you can get 400 horse easy along with the quattro all wheel drive; no rear wheel drive car will be able to hang with you in the dirt,sand,snow,ect...

it is the quattro 1.8t, i have no complaints with it as far as power as it has plenty of brutal toruqe plus i can always put a k04 for extra 50 hp and 50 torque, i am however a bit dissapointed with the 60/40 weight distribution(and weight in general, but i dont want to strip out my daily driver heh), ill be adressing that with some coilovers tho. also its not gonna be seeing any dirt, only tarmac.
