Hi Folks:

Over the weekend I changed the crusty, sagging alternator bushings on my 72tii, to the polyurethane ones that sell for like 2.50 from the usual sources. Best bang for the buck so far!

This solved a number of electrical woes, since before I could never get the alternator belt sufficiently tight, and so at stop signs my lights would dim, and my windshield washers and radio sometimes cut out.

But I wanted to post one unexpected benefit for people troubleshooting overheating and hot running engines. To my surprise, the car is running significantly cooler after I put the bushings in. I assume this is because the correctly tightened belt is now giving both the water pump and the engine fan full power.

Just thought I'd mention it, as this never occured to me when I was trying to figure out my hot-running engine.

I know, isn't it great! I just did the same thing, and it make a world of a differece. It cured a lot of problems beyond the noisy belt. My bushings had turned to sludge, and I had to scrape them out.
