So some assholes, possibly neighbors, broke into my car over the weekend in my secure garage that I pay good money for. Awesome. They pried my safari quarter-window open, rolled the window down, ripped the center console apart and removed my Alpine head unit.

Boo hoo for me. Anywho, I have a question about fixing my safari/quarter window. It appears they have bent the internal mechanism and now the window will not close all the way. It will open all the way, but thats it. I am no stranger to the internals of the door; however, I am not sure how to remedy this problem. Any thoughts? Anything I can do without removing the entire brand new door panel?

Hehe.. no thank god. Its just a pain in the ass. I would hate ripping my brand new door panel. That fiberboard is not exactly strong.

Also, while I'm in there I am not even sure what to look for.

The bottom post on the vent glass frame is probably twisted. That's what usually happens. If you take the vent window assy out and apart, you will see if that's the case. Maybe untwist it and hope it doesn't break, or replace it.

That's annoying, Alpine Units aren't that hard to come by these days, no need to mess up your car. I'm thinking that when the window was pried open, it skipped a couple of cogs and now is shifted more towards the open position. Maybe you can inspect the cogs and skip it back a couple notches, untill it closes right. I'd put out a notice to the pawn shops around, probably pawned for drugs.

Thanks everyone. I will look into it tonight and see if I need a new unit. Unfortunately its the driver side, so I may have look somewhere else for it. Does the whole entire unit need to come out or just the top part with the glass?

there is a frame that extends into the door. incidentally, on reflection i realize the frame i have *IS* the drivers side. i sold the whole passenger DOOR, and the only thing savable from the drivers side was that frame. I *think* it got some nicks in it too when the car rolled over. (This is from Hoa's rolled-over-on-its-side '73 that i parted out...)

I have no idea how they got in my garage, sons of bitches. For all I know it could have been someone else who parks in the same garage.
