while i'm waiting for things to cool under there - i've got a snapped exhaust line just ahead of the flange connection for the resonator - - - now for the stupid question . . . from that point is it always a single component all the way through to the manifold or is there a seperate connection to the manifold itself? the rear section of the exhaust from the resonator back is all aftermarket from the PO but i'm not sure about the rest. your input is appreciated . . .

If you've got a stock setup, it's two peices...

An exhaust manifold, and a downtube. The downtube is what connects to the center resonator on the front. If you've buggered that up, I'm sure plenty of people around have one. Hell I probably have (2) under my house someplace.

Maybe CD will post a nice picture of the parts!

apparently the manifold itself is aftermarket as well then (four manuals and not one has good display of the exhaust system.) from the engine it is one solid piece all the way to the intermediate pipe/resonator. of course that flange fitting that joins the two is a mess and i (with my limited abiblity) am trying to assess what to do next. the performance headers seem to be $400 plus, which i can't afford, and the only OE component i can find is just the down pipe. the search continues . . .

i'm finding downtubes no problem now - but component that is in place right now converges from 4 pipes straight from the engine into one - what i imagine to be a perfromance header. from what i can tell, i either need to get another performance header or get a down tube AND the original style manifold that will connect via 2 pipes to that downtube. i'm guessing at everything - i'm still quite wet behind the ears on all of this . . .

higher end torque and more noise (another header)

or

lower end torque and less noise (tii manifold/downpipe)

or

stock manifold/downpipe? (likely cheapest route)

Or the new option, which I would like to try, the 02again tubular exhaust manifold for use with stock downpipe.

Next time my welded-up cast iron tii manifold breaks, I'm getting one.

strangely enough i was able to find a stock down pipe from my local meineke muffler shop. they had to have it shipped in from another shop a few towns away, but it was only $90. this was about 3 years ago, but the fact that they had one amazed me.

and WHOA, i've never seen that manifold before fink! when did that come out? looks really nice! looks like the same guys who make the block off plates on the 02faq store. most excellent!

You could always pull it off and take it to your local mufler place and have them weld it back together.

If you were local I'd do it on the car for ya, take about 10 min tops.
