Regrettably I'm usually alone in the car. Always, there is light moisture on the inside of the windows. I don't think rain is getting in anywhere. The problem persists even when it hasn't rained in a week and the car has been parked windows open (in Alabama). The heater does not seem to have any water in it. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I've checked the floor/under the carpet like a bloodhound. I'm interested to know more about why you suspect heater core, Bob, and what to do about it. Thanks.

A small pinhole in a heater core will do exactly as you describe.

Try bypassing it and see if it goes away. Just pick up one of those bypass pipes from your local parts store ( usually in those stupid red HELP packages ) just find the right diameter and hook the heater lines together ( motor side please ), just leave the heater side open.

If your problem magicly disapears I believe you have a bad heater core my friend.
