Hey gang,

Tried doing a search both here and on google for replacement sheet metal ( floorboards, etc)-- any good sources? Most of the suppliers Ive scoped out have basics like seals and trim... re-originals doesn't have anything except for Italian cars.

Just scoping out some prices... for another possible car A.D.D. project

I got my replacement panels from my local BMW dealer - I used realoem to find the part numbers, he ordered them for me and they have been installed.

Australia is a bit more difficult to find bits or get them sent here, BMW was the easiest to get them. Im sure there are other places to source them in the US...

Funny you should mention that -- after beating my head against the wall (to the point of bruising) trying to find good sheet metal, I happened to be in the local BMW dealer's part department, and in passing, mentioned my woes. Mr. Partsguy simply pulled up a microfische, and ordered the part on the spot from the factory in Germany (same with the subframe). Voila, problem solved. Never in a million years would I have guessed that a dealership would be able to order up OEM sheet metal for a 70s vehicle. But, I've had the same experience with my old Ford truck -- screw the Arizona junk yards, now I just go to the dealer. Sure, the dealership costs more, but it's OEM (not Taiwan), and time (searching) is money, as they say.

Hehehe, I have got heaps of stuff!

Front wings, new nose section, hood, two new doors...

The prices can be seen as a rough estimate by searching at www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

Go to your local dealer and drive a hard bargain!

Highest quality OE panels. Reasonable prices. Accurate and current availability info. Many panels get damaged in shipment (or before). If you buy from a dealer, you can inspect and reject before accepting delivery.

I agree. I bought a hood and a subframe; pricing was at the high end, but there really is no "comparable" since parts in shipping get dented, or have cheap foreign steel (or should I say, more like tin? aluminum foil?). With a dealer, you're getting OE with factory tooling, and you have somebody to scream at ("I'm not accepting this, it's dented!"). To me, that's worth the extra price. Also, if you buy from a junker or take from a parts car, you have to strip, do the body work, etc. etc. etc. In my old age, I'm getting tired of all the chemicals and dust. At some point, the "screw it" attitude kicks in, so I bite the bullet and pay the dealer price.

Fortunately (knock on wood) I don't need any more 02 parts at the moment, but I've tried lots of sources for older domestic cars, including some direct licensees of "official" replacement parts. I've found the dealer is always the best source, however, for steel.

However, Mike Pelly in southern California has them made for both CS coupes and 02s. Coupe owners who have bought them have been happy.

Check out his website:

NOTE: the website doesn't mention 02 parts, but he does have them.
