Quick question.

I'm sure you all recognize the inka/black two-tone Alpina paint job. The one with black above the beltline, but the roof and pillars remain inka. Is the engine compartment black, too, or was it inka? I would guess inka, but I haven't found a picture with the hood up.

My car was originally malaga, now a poorly-maintained black respray. I want to eventually do a malaga/black Alpina style two-tone and wonder what color the engine compartment oughtta be.

Alpina paint schemes were a combo flat black/colorado.

I have seen, one picture....in Black & White....of a team mechanic servicing an Alpina car. The engine compartment was light colored, which must mean it was Colorado.

Inka/Black would look cool. I'm not sure Malaga/Black would have enough contrast to be particularly great looking.....but go for it!

Thanks. I figured the engine compartment had to be the lighter color because it would probably look wierd to open the hood and have the fenders go from orange on the outside to black in the engine bay. But then, I didn't know if maybe they extended the black down from the beltline on the door and below the A pillar.

What's funny is as soon as I got the car, I was pretty sure I wanted that paint job. It was malaga, now it's black, and I think the two colors go together really well. The cheap black paint job it has means there are places where the malaga wasn't covered.

A month or two later, I saw a picture of your car (no doubt you posted it) and then I KNEW that I wanted that paint job. Looks great! I can't wait to get mine done.

I just got another Malaga car. I am going to attempt to work on this one myself! It was easy to not work on it when I went to Greg's shop just about everyday. The shop is now 1100 miles away. I just rerad the project blogs for some inspiration. Maybe Malaga/Black with Dave's turbo flares and spoiler. It is a long way form anything right now. Jackstands, floorjack, almost every tool I own are still in NC. But I have a 15 year old that loves 02s as much as I do. So, I guess we will learn together. If i screw it up too badly then Sam can always take it to Lavelle's!

I think this is an Alpina paint scheme, too...

The legendary Phil Dermer drove an Alpina '02 with this paint scheme in SCCA B Sedan racing back in the 70s.

Someone...Mark I think, mentioned the interiors, underhood and trunk were painted grey on the Alpina cars. He has an Alpina racecar that he's restoring.
