I have some dumb turnsignal questions. Should my turnsignals make the familiar tick tock noise that turnsignals usually make? Because mine don't. They work properly outside the car, they auto cancel, the hazard lights work and do make the tick tock noise.

Also, should there be arrows or lights that flash either direction in the gauge cluster? My old pedestrian sixties / 70s VWs had turn signal indicators on the dash, shouldn't my more upscale BMW?

out of synch with the outside lights. If yours isn't, it may be easy to fix:

1. unclip flasher unit from the body and let it hang by its wires. Remove cover (it prys off--careful!)

2. Turn on the ignition, engage the turn signals and observe the two sets of relay points. The set that isn't working is the one that causes the interior lamp to flash. Bend the moveable point until it starts working. You might want to clean the points with some fine sandpaper.

Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

Hey, not too sure about all the technical "tick, tock" stuff. I know that when I replaced my relay, I got a different sound then the sound I got before, so all in all, it is supposed to make a sound, I guess, according to the relay you have in there.

As for in the instrument cluster. There is only one green light that comes on for both left and right turns. It's the on left section with the gas meter (I'm sure you already know this :P) on the bottom, beside of the highbeams light (it's blue). Kind of confusing sometimes if you haven't learnt which way to flip the turn signal switch (up = right, down = left)

It depends on the year, my 71' has the blinker stalk on the right (RHD car) so its - down = right, up = left. Beaner7102

Mines on the right and its never left Euroville, handy for changing gear and indicating at the same time, not so good when i'm half asleep and start flashing my lights to turn though!!

it usually a cause of a bad ground somewhere.

The outside light fixtures are easy to loose their ground. They ground where the screws affix the fixture to the body.

Also, some non OEM outside bulbs cause the inside indicator not to flash.
