So once again a 1975 2002A that was running well before replacing the oil pump, front seal, lower timing chain gasket, and water pump. The car won't start but I'm getting spark at the plugs and fuel from the fuel pump.

John, on this board, suggested checking the timing. So, I'm trying to figure out if the timing was thrown off somehow although I never touched the timing chains (double row) or dizzy during the repair.

Is it possible to change the timing without ever touching the chains?

Thanks to anyone who answers.

Easiest way to check is to pull the valve cover and dist cap off. turn the eng over untill the hashmark at the end of the cam (right behind the sprocket) is TDC, at the same time the rotor should be pointing at the hashmark on the dist case. That should get the car at least started to where you can use a timing light.

So with the 3 round marks (it's a triple crank pulley - a/c and air pump) lined up with the indicator on the left side of the lower timing cover, the crank mark was not lining up. I had to shift it around about 180 degrees in order for the hash mark on the cam to line up with the oil pipe on top of the head. Now I have the rotor pointing to wire #1 as well.

I'm just waiting for a jump start.

Could this car have been runnning with the timing 180 degrees off?

Thanks for answering.
