I was in chicago last week just to visit. My wife and I went to the science and history museum. Has anyone been to the section where the huge HO scale railroad is. It is a replica of the city of chicago, with the "L" and is just an awesome site. Well on one of the outer streets as I was walking around snapping photos my wife gasped and pointed... "Is than on 02?" I looked closely and from what I can tell it was. Of course the city of chicago must have a sense of humor, b/c there was a huge oil stain left behing the car and it was being loaded onto a rollback! :) Anyone else seen this?

Are you referring to the Museum of Science and Inudustry in Hyde Park?

Its in the same neighborhood as the University of Chicago.

Or are you referring to the History Museum which is downtown near the Aquarium?

Science and Industry had a submarine, but I dont remember either of them having a train. But I havent been to either one in 20 years or so

Hyde Park would definitely be 02-land. Lots of students, professors, artists and musicians. I grew up there and thats where I fell in love with my first sighting of an 02.

science and industry, not history...sorry about that...I hit all the tourist stuff when we went. It was the one with the submarine. You would remember this huge layout of the city. There was half an airplane hanging over it, very cool! I have to get the picture posted.

I'd bet that there are many 02s in Hyde Park. Professors and intellectuals probably still drive them, and were the original owners. But unfortunately you would have had to been closer to the University buildings to see them driving around.

Next time you visit, go to the University buildings. Some atom bomb work was done there and there are a few concrete sealed places with statues and markers. alot of history and science.

You never respect or appreciate those kinds of things until you move away.

But most importantly I hope you had some deep dish pizza.

is a permanant recontstruction of one of the original 1892 Columbian Exposition (World's Fair) buildings. The original buildings were stucco over wood; after the fair closed in 1893 this building was reconstructed in concrete and marble as a museum. And the submarine is a WWII German U-boat (the U-505 I think) that was captured by the US Navy during the war. It was the Navy's first successful boarding and capture of an enemy vessel since the Civil War!

reaction was a few miles away under Stagg Field.

Fermi and "da grey matter boys" who developed the nuclear bomb were located in U of C. Thats probably why that museum is so cool.

unbelievable. I hope theres concrete under all that grass and track.

jeez I should have thought to ask more questions.

I was just there last year when they had the special human "slice" exhibit but didn't notice the 02.

My x professor worked at Fermi and he really knew his stuff. On another related note, my old house was a few miles from Argon Labs. This could explain my irrational behavior, at least that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
