In case anyone has been wondering about the blue stuff, I finally called and asked. I don't know if it is different $$ in other parts of the country.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yeah, either way is fine with me. I'm not complaining, just postin' the info since CD told me to google it in that other thread. Google was a mess so I called instead.

HAAAHAHAHAA!

Many people here say it is "wurth" the money but I would like to hear from people who've had good luck with cheaper stuff...

unless you have a source of free radiators.

BMW antifreeze is essential for newer BMWs with plastic cooling system parts, but good quality ethylene glycol antifreeze is probably better for a 2002 with a copper/brass radiator. Also, blow 99 cents at the grocery store on a gallon of distilled water.

and that's what's in the new crate motor I got from BMW (via Max) now.

Did the factory put the blue stuff in 02s back in 1970, or is that something they've come up with more recently?

Thanks Curtis, that is really what I am aiming for - backflushing and refilling with the good stuff before replacing the radiator.

If it doesn't matter so much then I'll use something cheaper. If it does, then I'll use the good stuff.

BMW blue is totally unnecessary in an 02, and id argue even in the new cars. Its just extended-protection ethelene glycol mix. they dye it blue for marketing reasons, and so you wont mix it with standard green kind. what you DONT want to do is mix different types. For the record, new BMW plastic radiators are GARBAGE right out of the factory, and theres no antifreeze that can help em!! ;-p
