Where can I find the best deal on windshield glass in the Seattle area?

I already have the gasket and lockstrip, and I plan to have a mobile person come out to install it.

Should I just let the installer source the windshield, or should I get it myself?

thanks

I would let the installer source it, so if they break it on install they can give you a new one. If you provide your own windshield, you are SOL if they break it (that's what the glass shop told me anyway).

And besides, what are you doing messing around with glass? get back to work on the EFI conversion!

They have an extremely bad reputation for using non-OEM glass and half the time their parts fit incorrectly. Make sure it's either PPG or Pilkington.

I had the local glass doctor install a new windshield in mine. I was able to get a new front windsheld from them, w/ the back pulled reinstalled with my own new gaskets was a little over $400, and I did it when I painted it. They said they couldn't find a rear one, so they would have to be careful with it on the install. I got the window seals online and it's seems pretty waterproof so far, and looks nice. Plus I was able to paint the window sills. Also my front glass was fogged and delaminated. now the new one is nice and clear, except the car is sitting idle w/ ingnition issues. I guess I'll have to get the lil German car out afeter the 4th...maybe it's better that way.

Haha, Yeah. I have the computer and relay board in, but I am waiting to get my crank trigger wheel shim from the fabricator.

My wife and I did both the front and back glass, it's not rocket surgery and it's certainly not fun, and you *must* have the lockstrip tool and do the string trick. Very doable if you are trying to save some cash. Lots of good how-to info in the archives. It's very important to use OEM seals, but aftermarket glass is fine and far cheaper ($80 vs $300+ for oem).
