I was tuning up my 70 2002 last night and came across a problem. I changed the cap, rotor (tii dist), plugs, wires, points, and coil. I ordered a Bosch blue coil from BMP- they sent a Bosch silver coil. Thye said it has recently changed.

When I fired up the car it runs great, but I'm getting very faint smoke from the resistor above the coil. I don't want to burn up the car. Can I buy another resistor- where do I get it/how do I know what to get?

OR- Can I just remove the resistor or is that not ok with my setup?

Any help is appriciated.

Thanks!

I had not heard anything about the color change, though it's certainly possible. If it's the same as the blue coil, you do not need the resistor. The blue Bosch coil has an internal resistor. Just by-pass it and go directly into your coil.

from one end to the other.

Regardless, it should not be smoking. Check for an error in your wiring, such as connecting the resistor between 12 volts and ground.

After some investigation I think BMP sent the wrong coil.

The box reads Bosch 0010 (replaces 0221119021 - use only with .9 ohm resistor). So that means it can't be the blue. No red stickers so I guess it's the black?

What to do now?

A. try to get the blue I ordered and skip the resistor? (not sure how that would go b/c i'm already using it even though they sent the wrong one)

b. replace the reistor with a new 9 ohm? Where/how do I find one?

Any new thoughts?

Thanks!
