No matter my carbs could not be sync'ed. I believe that the walls on the throats were simply too thin. That manifold was perhaps ported beyond reasonable.

The new 42/42 downdraft. A Yougoslavian carb made under a Weber licence. It uses DCOE jets and was bought from Dave Pineda.

Woah! That is massive! So the side draughts are gone all togther and you are going back to down draught? What sort of power decrease/increase is that? Better fuel economy?

Lee, where they 40mm manifolds ported to 45? What brand where they?

I have had those manifolds, I don't even remember what brand they were. Now I understand why BMW original manifolds have extra webbing to strengthen the area around the flange.

I expect loss of ppwer above 6000 RPM, but more grunt below. I did not do this swap for fuel economy as I could get 25MPG on highway with 45 idle jets. I just wanted less hassle. as an instructor at DEs, I do not have time to work on the carbs in between sessions.

...and maybe you could go to this manifild bolted to your 42 / 42 manifold holes and then mount your DCOE's to it . You'd need a little BULDGE in your hood !
