I'm wondering if any other BMW distributors work with a 2002? I have the 1847v pertronix system and need a 2002 distributor that fall in the range of # 0231180003- The distributor I have now is an older one that has a post in it and I need a different distributor for it to work right. I saw that the ignitor system I have works also for a 79-77 320i. I've put a WTB ad in the pars section for a 2002 distributor that works with the pertronix 1847v, but I'm wondering what my choices are for a distributor for my electroic ignition upgrade. Any help is appreciated.

I got a pretty good deal on the pertronix ignition system ~ $70, and the new distributor at bav auto is 419.95. The distributor I have worked fine, even though it was an old one, and I got a new cap, wires, rotor etc, but the ignitor won't fit because it's an early distributor. I also think my ignition problems origninated becuse the distribtor got wet when the drain was plugged and it leaked throgh some drill holes on the firewall onto the distributor. Bav Auto, sent me the wrong points, as my distributor has the post, and I got another wrong set from autozone, and now I think the pertronix ignitor is the way to go, but I need a different distributor. I figured with all the parts cars being bought and sold there'd be an extra one on the shelf somewhere that someone wanted to send me for a good deal.

Vacuum is great for stock or near-stock engines. If you have a big carb, higher compression and/or a hot cam, you might benefit from the mechanical advance.

Call Maximillian or check out Walloth and Nesch to see what the prices are running. $400+ sound too way too much but it's been a while

You can always check with Pertronix and see what igniter they recommend for your distributor. Email to: marvin@pertronix.com and give him your distributor number. It sounds like replacing your distributor to match your ignitor is a much more expensive proposition than replacing the ignitor.

There's no system for my current distributor. The serial number falls out of the range, probably because of the post that you mount the points on. It was hard to find points for it, and I'd rather find a distributor that'll work with electronic ignition rather than points as I've already had problems finding the right set. I just figure if I can find a good deal on a distributor that will work with the ignitor system. then I won't have as many problems down the road, ignition wise.

I have a distrubitor that I bought from 02 Salvage in Hayward. As it turns out, I won't be using it. They guaranteed it to work, but, I don't know for-sure since I did not install it. It is for a 1976 2002. Let me know if you are interested..lberlemann@gmail.com
