As an update, I have been offered an Alpina metal original filterhousing, Alpina new air filter, 4x Alpina new rubber collars for $875. Is this a fair price in peoples experience? (it works out to about £480 or €700 is that helps).

is a bit thin, prices are likely to widely vary.

The question really is, how badly do you want to have one right now, vs. waiting for one that might show up?

Cheers!

Now I'm all confused! I have the cash just burning a hole in my pocket.... hmmm.... it would look great and is a lot better than the air socks I have now!

Hi,

Two points - the one you pictured for the A4 is for a 320i, not the original 2002 A4 airbox. (Mounting points are different, but you can have a box fabricated, I know several folks who have had this done and it looks awesome, you use the same cover).

I paid probably $750 for my 2002 A4 airbox a couple or three years back (ebay). I really wanted it and am happy with my purchase, no complaints. It looked in the same condition as yours.

I feel the price is ok, but as has been stated, it's how much you want it. To me, the A4 system isn't complete without the airbox! Lots of grin factor when you see that baby when you open the hood!

my 2 cents,

Jason

the correct airbox can demand those prices, because it could be keystone to complete the system. Beware the incorrect box (that for the 320's) will NOT fit the 2002. In addition to the mounting points being different, it will not clear the booster. The top cover is the same for both.

I ended up fabricating the lower one out of steel, it works, but I am not happy with it. It should be aluminum but for the first effort, we learned a lot. Fabricating something like that is not cheap, but it can be done. There is also a fiberglass bottom in the market, I know Jan has one, maybe he can elaborate, if he is back from Canada.

Hi there,

thanks for you're help re the airbox. You mentioned somebody might be able to supply me with a fiberglass bottom for the airbox. Do you have contact details for him?

Best wishes

Jon
