The rust pictured is as bad as it gets. The car has been sitting for 21 years and was a hell of a car when it ran. It has a cam, dual carbs, upped compression and a few other bits along with an Alpina West windshield banner. Plans right now are not clear because I need to get a title and jump through a bunch of other hoops to get it in my driveway but things will get done.

Wow! Cool find. Do you know what kind of wheels those are? I've got a set and have no idea what make they are.

If you have problems getting a title, we (as a garage) can get a title on anything that sticks around too long in our shop, that's how ended up with these:

Michael how long does it take you to get a title and how difficult is it for you?

And about the wheels, I have no idea what they are and one of the wheels is a steelie so I only have three.

I pay $35 to have the lien sale paperwork done by a service that just does that, letters are sent to the last owner of record by certified mail (this is incl. in the $35 fee). At the end of 30 days we can hold a "lien sale" at the shop, where the last owner can settle with us for an absurd amount due to storage charges, since almost always nobody claims the cars, or if they show up won't pay the settlement amount, it automatically becomes our property. Then you take the lien sale paperwork to the friendly Hollister DMV, where if you go at 2:00 pm there will not be any lines (or a short one), tell them you just bought this car at a lien sale and you want to register it. It is as simple as that. I just love this country!

If that's all the rust then it might not be such a big money pit after all. Those wheels came as standard on most of the cabriolets in the UK and will be fairly easy to source over there. They were probably put on by UK dealers and I'm pretty sure they are UK made.

Ask http://www.linwar.co.uk/ (they have a HUGE stock of old kit) or http://www.jaymic.co.uk/ (new owners who know how to run a business) if they have one knocking about.

Had a set on my Touring when I bought her and sold them to a cabriolet owner.

Considering it sounds like California is such a pain with other aspects of motor vehicles, they make this lien process an easy one for shop owners.....

Michelin XZX's--they haven't been made in that size for many years!

And you California folks don't have an inkling of what REAL rust is! When I redid my '69 (after 30 Ohio winters) fully 120 degrees of the 180 degree arc of the rear fender lip was completely rusted...so I ended up replacing the whole thing. And that was just one panel. I ended up welding new metal into every exterior panel except the roof...

Neat car...and I'd love to hear the story of how it got pink...could it be an ex Donna Mae Mims car (F1reverb knows who I'm talking about)
