How much gas is too much gas to autoX with in the tank?

it may or may not matter. if you're really experienced and drivng the car to its full potential, it could hold you back a couple of tenths.

but for most normal beginners, it doesn't really matter that much.

i usually run with the least gas possible, but usually a little less than 1/4 tank just to make sure i don't run out of gas before i can get to a gas station.

it makes the rear end just a little but more controllable.

10 gallons of fuel will weigh considerable less than a diet of fast food and caffiene.

Whenever I look at putting my car or bicycle on a diet of lightweight / high performance parts, I always look at myself first. That added performance is going to mean nothing as long as I am carrying 20 extra pounds. This usally depresses me to the point that I just go have a double-double at In-N-Out instead.

unless you've got a couple dead bodies in the trunk (who doesn't?), then body weight shouldn't be as much of an issue since it sits in the center of the car. it's the weight at the rear of the car that will give your rear end momentum as it spins around and flings you off course. Sure, more weight over the driven wheels will give you more traction, but thats only good for getting out of a snow bank. Once a heavy rear end starts to spin around sideways, its hard to stop.

With an empty gas tank, I can sling the rear end all I want while easily keeping it under control.
