I had the opertunity to see the car in paint one day when picking up from the body shop. All I can say is once you see it in person WOW, the pics dont do it right. I have seen first hand some of the work the body shop has done to this car and there skills allways amaze me. This is the reason we use them and them only. Bill she is going to be a sweet ride!!

Greg and Butch can really do good work on these cars, some of what he did on this car, was pure magic.

Their shop is an undiscovered 02 restoration shop of the mid south.

Did you see it with the suspension on?

No I saw the car right when it came out of the booth. If you think what they did to the touring here is what they did with Andy's 1600 cab. there must have been 50gallons of bondo in her. They pulled all the original metal out and replaced bad sections as well as put the lines back in.

Bill,

What exactly is the process of refinishing the front and rear sub-frames? I assume they were blasted clean and then somehow refinshed. Is the green you used original, mine appear to be black?

Beutiful work, I don't even want to know how much you spent at the body shop! What type of carpet did you use?

It was to big for the oven I have so it was done by a shop in northern VA.

I did it in a dark olive. There is a debate on what BMW actually used as a color. Some, me included, feel the 1972 frames where originally done in a color that is very close to the color of new brake lines.

However, others report the frames are black. BMWs promotional material from the day show the frames in black. The three or four 1972 frames I have delt with are this grayish green so I put them back that way.

Wish there was a definitive answer.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
