re-torque head gasket after replacement!?

I have replaced my second head gasket as I did not use new head bolts the first and perhaps did not re-torque properly. I hope that is the reason for the first failure. Car runs great now. Do I need to re-torque the head at some point soon and if so what is the procedure. Do I loosen a bit and bring it back to specs or do I just put the wrench on it and go from there.

The new gasket should have come with instructions on what to do. Some newer gaskets use the angle torque method (torque to 'x' lb ft then warm up the engine and turn an additional 'y' degrees) while others use the traditional stepped torquing and retorque after a period of time.

amusingly, they all seem to amount to 65 ft- lbs

regardless of whether they're torque to number

or torque to degree.

Usually the first retorque is really important,

while everything after that isn't such a big deal.

fwiw,
