B.C people! Anyone bring in a 2002 from the USA?

I assume you mean exporting USA -> Canada?

I haven't done it but have spoken to a couple of people who have. Apparently, it's not a big deal. Logistically, the paper work has to be at the port of export (ie, the border crossing) three days prior to your arrival. Just drive down if close by and drop off a faxed copy from the sale. If all the VIN numbers etc. match up it's a rubber stamp exit. Then off to Canada customs to pay taxes. The worst in BC is likey the "out of province" examination and subsequent repair costs. Having said that, you should likely have a 30 year old car thoroughly looked at prior to driving around town for safety reasons. Hence, the out of province inspection just duplicates common sence.

I was lucky, my '74 2002a was exported from California to Canada (Toronto). The PO had it there for three months during the summer/fall. I then bought it and had it shipped out west to Calgary and now Vancouver. The PO did all the paperwork!

Very easy.....but....!!!!!! Have the purchaser meet you at the border, or take delivery in the US and transport it him(her)self into Canada. A buyer importing a car into Canada is very simple, with no paperwork other than a title(copy faxed to the US customs office 72 hours in advance), and bill of sale.

However; as a seller exporting a car from the US into Canada, the paperwork/regulations are a friggin nightmare.

I STRONGLY suggest the purchaser drive the car across the border.

Good luck,

Edward
