I have a non vacume advance distributor on my 72 02A and I installed a new cap, rotor and points to try to get rid of uneven acceleration and some backfiring/sputter. I set the points at .016 as the Haynes manual instructed but then realized I must have the Tii Distributor since there is no vacume advance. The numbers on the Distributor are 0231188002 and JFD4. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to set this up to run right? BTW, the car has a freshly rebuilt and tuned 1 barrel solex and have have adjusted the timing multiple times. Thank in advance. Yes you do have a Tii distributor and it should work fine on your stock engine. However, the stock vacuum advance dizzy would be best with that stock one barrel solex...the advance curves are different. Have you checked the ignition timing? Your problems sound as though the timing is off. I would adjust the timing and see if that helps. If you cannot adjust the timing...ie, you cannot get the ball on the flywheel to line up steadily with the hole in the bell housing, the distributor is probably worn out and will need replacement. If it's worn you will never get the timing accurate and your problems will not go away.
