Hi all,

Ive fitted the Jets as per CD's instructions and blocked the Hole,

Now the carb works great on the Primary Throttle and initialy on the Secondary however coming up to 5000 RPM it runs out of power, feels like its too lean to me. Any Ideas?

How old is your motor? What's your rear end ratio? If you've got an old or slightly tired car OR maybe the ignition/timing is just a little off then who knows but if the motor is stock do you really want to pull up much over 5Krpm anyway? That's a healthy workout for a motor so to ask it to pull up above 5K may not be as easy as you would think with a little 32/36

Actually you are probably running too rich. I've found that when the idle mixture screw when it is unscrewed gives the car more idle and makes the mixture rich, but you can loose some of the backpressure and the car sorta opens up too much. Screw in the idle mixture a little and you'll find it will give you more backpressure and torque, but it shakes more in 1st and 2nd. There's a happy medium there.

A stock motor should pull all the way to redline. There is not one "prescription" of jets that will work well on all motors. It should be viewed as a starting point only. Check timing and other variables first, then re-visit jetting.

Motor is very good 56k did head gasket last year and bores looked great, no bottom end gremlins and the valves seats were perfect.. Has Electronic Ignition, new Fuel pump, was pulling more revs with the old Single Choke Solex 40 so would expect a bit more at full throttle from the 32/36? and not a dramatic run out of puff, I will try lightening up the mixture a bit but It seems to be running a little hotter as it is. Must get the 'colour-tune' out, although dont want to kill the motor by over reving at stand still!

Verify the timing is set properly and that it is advancing during accel. Also check to be sure mixture is not too lean at those higher rpms. Take note of how you are accelerating at 5000 rpm's and that will give you a clue as to which jets in the carb need to be fine tuned (i.e. are you only opening the primary or are you into the secondary).

Hi Rob,

I don't have an answer for your running problem, but I was wondering if you had an extra rally plate/sticker form your St Patricks day run? I could send you off an extra Shamrock Rally plate from our event.
