9.5 in wide? on stock 02? I doubt that is possible, and if it is what would your steering effort be like?

Okay, in inches,

the bottlecap is a 6" wide rim and has an offset of -1.4"

It's also about as close to the trailing arms and struts as a rim can get

and still have tires on it.

So to widen its rim by 3.5", offset will also have to move positive (out) by 3.5" (since at -1.4" you're snuggled in as far as you can) adding the 3.5" to the outside of the wheel.

3.5+ -1.4 = 2.1... so you'll need a positive offset of 2 1/8" or so. Or an even 2", and run a bit of spacer.

And you'll probably want to flare the fenders about 4" on the end that has these rims, depending on what tires you plan on running.

Steering, after this, may become an issue...

if you do just the rears, you'll need to do something to rebalance the handling of the car. More rubber in back is going to make it understeer like a bugger, all else being the same. So you'll probably want to change spring rates, sway bars, etc.

I'm grip- challenged in the rear of the race car right now- so it might be possible to balance it out somehow...

If you do the fronts too, you'll have a massive scrub radius with tires sticking out that far- and camber control might get to be an issue, too, with that much rubber. Also, the tires are going to want to hit the firewall when you turn, binding themselves solid. You might end up having to move the bottom of the strut forward...

FWIW- check my math and conversions before you order!

You will not fit 9.5 inch wide wheels of any offset on a stock '02. You will need serious bodywork front and back. 7 inches with an offset of 24 mm is about as wide as you can go with stock fenders, and even then you'll likely need to seriously roll/stretch the front fender lips.

Have you explored the tire size choices for a 14x9.5 wheel?

Hey thanks very much for the information. Looks like I might be able to do fronts all around. I am still in the shopping stage and have many things to do before I get to the wheels. Your math will be very helpful.

Thanks

staygold, the equips (remakes) are relatively new and you'll be hard pressed to find anything used in the correct offset. check with a dealer (also they have it on their website) for different widths/offsets.. there's many for the equips. last time i checked on equip03s, they were going for ~300 a piece also. check on honda-tech.com or vwvortex.com in their classified sections if you're dead set on finding used ones.

..and I also do not own a BMW 2002.

I was contemplating going with 7" and stretching a 40 series tire over the rim. Do you think that this would save any fender roll?

Thanks,

Byron
