What about the carpet fit on the passenger's side - can you see paint at the front of YOUR kickpanel carpet piece?

I hear an E12 is their next project.

job than the factory did. Are Tii paint-color stickers by the headlight on a Tii? Does the Tii intake manifold dent the hood-foam? The interior doesn't look too hot either, and Al's carpets fit better than the MT one seems to. Even the Inka paint in the engine compartment/fenders has grapefruit-peel to me. I'm disappointed.

Hi,

they should have done there homework before that rebuild was undertaken!!! every picture has poor workmanship and mistakes that can be verified from factory manual photos. I have been working on 2002's for 22 years and i have certainly seen better work by way of the photos that are posted on the forum and cars at actual shows. i hope that this car doesn't RESET the bar to a lower expectation of what people look for and see when they buy a $10,00 car and then become disappointed. keep working on your cars and don't let the small stuff side by.

No boot on the connector for the cold start valve

Fuel hose to cold start valve routed wrong

Fuel hose from filter to K-fish routed wrong- no keeper between the FI hard lines to hold rubber fuel hose.

Hood hinge mounting bolts were painted the body color.

Gawd we can be an anal bunch! :^)

I DO appreciate what the factory did.

I hope THEY appreciate what we have been doing for the past 20 plus years with these cars. I think they should have spent a bit of time here on this list to do some research. Then again, with us guiding the factory they may have opted NOT to do an 02.

I'm with you all the way, Steve...

I couldn't be more pleased that BMW has finally acknowledged the 2002 as the seminal 'sports sedan'...and I couldn't be more thrilled the car chosen to represent the model by the factory is a tii...in Inka orange like my Julius.

The photos of the car in motion and from a distance are quite spectacular, and it's great to be able to pull up pictures posted on the slick URL and showoff to the hoi polloi...

Orange Julius and I ventured over to the local BMW dealer here in Grand Rapids the other day to order a couple of parts, and when I came back to the parking lot, half a dozen salesman from the showroom were out there ogling at him. Only one of them knew what it really was, the others just knew it was somehow "significant."

We can grouse about the details amongst ourselves...

"Ya hadda been there!"

I'm not going to make the same mistake the factory did. I'm going to use you guys as reference before "my" '72 Inka Tii gets a thorough effort next month. ......................... providing, of course, you guys get it right.

Me neither. I'd considered the purchase Rover, but decided against it...

Oh, we'll get it right, alright.

It may just take some heated discussions back and forth to finally agree that Hans or Gunther or Helga must have been just a touch hung over when they built a particular car with a particular feature.

My brother was in Germany last year and saw it in the flesh-and though he said overall it looked pretty nice, but that there were flaws that we would never let out the door even on a lower budget restoration.

Flaws like wavy sides and bad panel gaps-little things. Problem is, that's the way the panels now come-"pre-waved"- so if they just hung the stuff, scuffed it and painted it, woe be they.

I have about 10 spare round washer bottles, they coulda called me for one.

As has been said, many on this board have done better work, but I do applaud the factory for their efforts to recognize the heritage and maybe with them saying it cost $XX,XXX (whatever) to do it will raise the bar as to what good restoration work costs, but I am not holding my breath.
