hi, i'm a little new to this but i could sure use the help..

my friend and I are rebuilding a 1969 2002. we're practically replacing everything. we finally put the tranny in and connected it to the driveshaft.

when we press on the clutch pedal, it only goes half way down and it hits something (makes a clanking noise). i went under and noticed the clutch slave cylinder is full extended when the pedal is not pressed and when it is pressed it compresses 1/2".

the clutch master and slave are all new and so is the throw-out bearing.

any ideas? we're stuck.

thanks in advance.

yea we were bleeding it when we found out the pedal wouldn't go all the way down.

i'm not sure where the clanking is coming from.. i think it's in the tranny housing. i'm going to look at it more this weekend, hopefully.

"old style" coil spring pressure plate, a six bolt flywheel and uses a different throwout bearing from the later cars with diaphragm pressure plates. (clutch disk is the same, early and late) These early cars also have an adjustable slave cylinder pushrod that the later cars don't have. With a new clutch and pressure plate, the pushrod may have to be adjusted back to its minimal length. Or you may have the incorrect T/O bearing.

Make sure you have the right clutch assy for your car. I have a source for the early pressure plates and T/O bearings if you have the wrong ones I have an early 69 and did a clutch replacement last year.

turns out the engine is '71 which meant the pressure plate, clutch and release bearing is the same as mid-'69 and on. but apparently, i had the correct plate and clutch were but not the throw-out bearing.

managed to get a spare and all is well.

thanks for all the input.
