theres like loose vinyl at the top and no holes cut. The holes arent a big deal but what do i do about the top? I figured id use the trim and black metal thing with the lock hole off a donor door - but what now? I dont get it and dont want to mess up an expensive door panel. any tips?

You have to have donor panels to get the metal top portion that attaches to the "board". I have never bought panels but have redone some and made new boards, do you have a panel off to look at the back side? If you do you will see what you need to do.

I got a new interior from SeamsPerfect a couple months ago. The door panels had holes cut in the wood portion of the panel, but not in the vinyl. I asked why and was told that not all of the doors line up the same and making perfect cuts in the vinyl was not an exact science. Made sense to me. I just placed long screws in the door handles, etc., and placed the door panel up to the door. This allowed me to mark the spots I needed cut. I then took an exacto knife and made a small 'X'. Once I started putting the door on properly, I would make the hole more precise. It all worked out. I can't wait to get some pictures to share as Al did an excellent job on this interior. It was worth the wait.

Back in the good old days door panels from BMW came with the chrome trim piece, felt, and rubber squeegee on them. When they were reproduced by Mobile Tradition they no longer came with the chrome trim, felt, or rubber squeegee and the price went up greatly to boot! You simply need to attach the trim piece from your original door panel or get one from a donor panel. They attach using clips. The panels have never come with holes in the vinyl cut in them no matter where they are sourced, only holes in the backing board.

I think what he is talking about is he has the board portion with the vinyl cover but not the metal portion that attaches to the board at the top which includes the hole for the lock button. Need to attach this first and then glue the loose vinyl over this before you can attach the chrome trim and inner felt. I might be wrong, it has happened before.
