1:Is the bolt #32211113178 the correct one for the lower strut support mount, is it the one with a small hole on its side to put a thin metalic wire to prevent the bolt the unscrew itself, and it is still available at the dealer?

2: about bilsteins front shocks, i am looking at the blue rubber boot.

3: i saw one time some pictures of a "real" bilstein front suspension, the strut itself was also yellow like the insert... true or not?

I am in the process of refurbishing my Alpina wheels...

Will post pics.

thanks

Went to the dealer for this last week, we looked at the fiche and the repair manual. Couldn't find it on the fiche (same as at realoem.com of course) but of course saw a detail of it in the manual. I've since sheared one of these. I hope they're readily available. I bet Maximillian or someone has them. I'd also like to know the number.

Good Luck!

1) 32 21 1 113 178 is the number for the 3 "safety bolts" that attach the steering arm to the bottom of the strut housing. They are available thru BMW, list price is still USD $7 each.

As for andrewro's dealer not finding it on the fiche, he just did not know where to look. These bolts are for the "steering arm" and are included on the same page as the tie rods & center links, etc..

Look for item #15 on sheet 32/4

2) Sometimes the pleated boots were black, but if you call Bilstein they can supply them separate. Or take a pair from someone who can't use them with coilovers.

3) I have black Bilstein strut housings for 2002, and I have yellow Bils. ones for some other models. I have seen photos of yellow Bilstein 02 strut housings, but I think they were painted by the owners (don't really know.)

Here's a picture of black Bilstein 2002 Alpina Struts with larger tubes for P36 dampers:

Order up a spare or two of the safety bolts to keep in your spares kit. If you or someone else has one that shears off, you can be the hero.
