So, I got a fairly large chunk of change back grom the federal gov't. this year, and plans are underway to repaint and fix the body of my 1600. It is currently painted Hennarot, a color picked by the previous owner. I want to keep it this color because of its rarity and interesting shade of red orange.

My question is how much would you estimate some rust removal from the fender and door as well as a respray would generally cost?

Lucky you Mr refund! One must go in person to shop around. consult with knowledgeable types esp of the marque, and or have a pro help you determine what the practical (common sense) approach should be, as there are many variables to that come into play. I`m thinking you want to have this done (right) correct? Many trick themselves that the job was done right only to have work errors appear shortly after completion. A little rust you mention, and a scuff and re-paint is around 1200 is probably about right. Too many layers of paint might not be a good idea though unless the prior owner stripped the paint to bare metal.etc..etc.. I`m in the Detroit area, and may help with some solutions. If you would like some input offline please email me msalaniuk@yahoo.com.

You may find it's cheaper and easier to replace the door and or fender. It's pretty cheap to get replacements and other than the weld or leading at the front of the fender - pretty easy to put those parts on. That's what I did. Had fender and doors stripped and in place the the painter to primer and paint.

I could repaint my car with my tax refund, but I'd still end up 1 or 2 rattle cans short.
