suggestions for fitting a throttle cable?

Hi:

So I fired up the new dual solex setup today, and with a little choke action she came to life! BUT, only with me having tied a string to the control lever and pulling from the half open door.

I have the linkage all set, I just need to get some sort of cable that runs from the pedal lever to the linkage lever. I friend suggested a motorcycle throttle cable, which is sealed and strong, with some sort of swivle pin that fits to the linkage lever.

For anyone who has done the conversion to a cable and not the long solid rod, how did you secure the cable, and what did you use???
