This is my first post to this wonderful forum. As such, I decided to begin not with a question, but a gift. For all you 74 and later 02 owners, from this day forward none of you shall be made fun of for your ugly, big bumpers.

One day I decided to remove the big aluminum beams, and to my surprise found a very German solution to left-lane squatters. For some reason the marketing dept. at BMW never advertised this feature.

I had to do a little cleaning with some bore solvent, but the mechanisms seem fine. Still looking for surplus 20mm rounds from an old FW-190.

Next time you see one of us big-bumpered outcasts in your rear view, just do as the old print ad suggested: say Bey Em Vey. And get out of the way.

Thanks for all the welcomes and compliments. Such a nice bunch of gearheads/car freaks. At home at last I am. My old Commando is a little miffed because lately my restoration money has been going into the 02. And last week I even sold my original 72 Yamaha works motocrosser. That was painful.
