Yesterday was cold and sunny here in Michgan and I set out to remove bits a pieces from my '73 agave parts car. Though it has been hit, it sat in dry storage for years, and has many great, NLA parts, some of them USA spec '73-only. These will give new life to the survivors...

Front/rear bumpers and vertical bars, complete with the correct '73-only reinforcements, bumper brackets and intact rubber rear bracket dress covers. The front bumper center section is very, very nice as are the vertical bars. The rest are "serviceable."

VDO washer bottle and pump. Cracked at the mounting, but can be repaired unnoticed.

Side market lights and reflectors.

License lamp plastic wedges. L/R. with gaskets. Fixtures are crap, but rubber is supple and pliable.

The little rubber plug under the rear bumper that fills the hole for the euro license lamps wiring.

The aluminum(?) plug that goes in the bottom of the spare tire wheel.

Trunk boards -- including the ones for the sides.

The grey vinyl pieces that cover parts of the rear wheel housings, and the piece that goes on the trunk floor between the wheel wells.

Inside rear view mirror.

Steering column lower pad with very slight (hardly noticeable) key damage.

Headrest grommets for stock seats.

Tobacco/black interior. Good door panels, armrests rear ash trays. Some carpet bits for the purists.

Audiovox AM/FM vintage radio and 2002 speaker panel.

Original ashtray with beautiful, dull silver handle.

Windshield wiper arms.

VGC sunvisors.

Trunk lock and key.

One beautiful, locking stainless steel(?) gas cap with half-moon lock cover and BMW logo. Key included. (Shined up nice!!!)

This car will be offered for sale when I remove the little bits.

This is a non-sunroof roller with good front and rear panels, decklid. intact engine and drivetrain. Rear defog windscreen. fix it, hot rod it, or continue to 'part it out.'

Car is in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It's a '73...that's the way they came from the factory.

I have no opinion about reflectors, side markers, even big bumpers like your all-original Golf.

Regarding the 2002: Once the wave of modifiers, tuners and hot rodders get done with the entire remaining survivors of an "automotive icon," stock, unmodified cars with matching numbers will prevail in value and collectability. It matters not if they are Euro, USA-spec cars, or right hand drive cars.

At Barret-Jackson in January, a bone stock '73 Sahara (complete with side marker lamps and reflectors,) netted more than SEVENTEEN LARGE! That is not a fluke, but a portent.

You may curse the future, but it's gettin' closer every day...

Rock On!

Delia, maybe it's just me, but to the tone of this post I swear this bit belongs in the FOR SALE SECTION. Geez get it over with.

True. It's a plug for the sale of the hulk.

Based of f1reverb's (Jay Hector, another long time 2002 owner) response, it is also very much on-topic, as there are fewer cars and parts cars out there. These are the parts that become scarce.

Starting a thread about what I learned makes for good on-topic dialog.

The board has been a bit slow lately. Some of the slowness, IMO, stems from the reluctance of prolific, contributing members to post anything that is likely to be criticized or questioned. There is no shortage whiners and crybabies who spend more time lurking, passing judgement and complaining than making substantive posts.

Complaining about where you think my post should be is not likely to stimulate any dialog, nor is it in the spirit of of the "good nature of the 2002 community" (if I may paraphrase Rob).

When you think about those knowledgeable, former members who no longer post, or only post occaisionally, maybe you'll 'catch my drift.'

Have great Sunday!

It's responses like this that contribute nothing to the friendliness of the bord. Stick it in your ear post natzi.

Making F1Reverb/Jay's post a reason to justify yours is like holding up a sign saying "NEED MONEY" and you aren't a real street person until somebody gives you $5 to validate your position. Would people still consider what you said important if nobody responded?

Don't get me wrong, I liked your post, that is until it became an advertisement for your car for sale. I thought your list of items was interesting and a good list for many new 73 owners.

I find it interesting that the so called experts "those knowledgeable, former members who no longer post" which you seem to have catagorized yourself as, on this board seem to be somewhat abrasive when the conversation doesn't go "their way" compared to the more jovial attitude some other BMW boards I've been on.

Unlike BMW boards where people who own a mix of old and newer BMWs, many 02 only owners, "fanatics" only long to relive the "past" where they were one of the few original owners and like to constantly drive that home to the newbies. Your posts seem to favor that philosophy. It creates a bit of elitism that scare off people from posting here IMHO.

Please consider the fact that many of us want to contribute regardless of our knowledge or experience. The fact that not much new has gone on with these cars since 1976 makes 2002s at times a real dead subject for something new and people struggle at times to discuss something new or relevant, without digging up "THE PAST".

Perhaps you should start your own blog or site where we could read and refer to your information in a more organized light than here in a bunch of lost threads.

You also have a nice Sunday, and I hope it includes driving your car of course.

i have tried, unsuccessfully, to repair washer reservoirs with Wurth's epoxy( water tight), and 3M's 5200( below water line boat repair/permanent )and it still did not work. Good luck trying the fix. I have a couple really nice 02 botttles, I have found over the years ,without cracks.BTW, You can still buy a Bavaria Res. NOS, if you want white and water tight and big capacity for nasty driving conditions.

My original roundie washer bottle cracked along the dovetail where it sits in the bracket. I poured superglue in there and it has held up for about 2 years now. Maybe I was just lucky, and perhaps if I hit a Texas pothole i'll be back to square one?

Looks like a heads-up to the Board that these items are going to be available. No harm, in my opinion. It is actually an aid to the "neophyte", who might stumble upon the board because of a recent first 02 purchase, or for whatever reason. It lets someone know this stuff is 73 specific, and going to be available. Rob wants values attached to FS items. Perhaps that has yet to be determined. It takes time to put all that together, with pics. The For Sale section is not always a place a newcomer finds( or a verteran unfamiliar with the changed format). I wish this place was still just about the cars and how to preserve them and how to make them better, and the fun stuff done with the cars. That was how I remembered it. No "ad hominum" posts are, or ever were, necessary.

would be her stripped hulk in the future. It seemed to me she was crowing over the goodies she got for free and might find useful some day, and getting free reflectors/side-markers is nothing (to me) to crow about, just a necessary evil to fill the holes put there for them. Now big bumpers might be ugly, but it's a lot easier to wax your paint with 'em, unlike the reflectors/marker hand/machine ruiners, than with normal bumpers. I see nothing OT with crowing over a good deal. I don't care what my '02 is worth as it's not going anywhere as long as I'm alive, unlike the majority here who have a quickie affair with '02s (i.e. under ten years with the same car) and then hope for a big payday when they dump their heap. I hope they stay worthless in case I want another. Here endeth the lesson.

any joy-juice that would actually do a good job cleaning your windshield would also do a good job ruining your paint as it streaks over the roof at speed. I spend half my time driving my '02 dodging morons in front of me spraying windshield acid at my car.
