Good tips. Need just a little more.

1) Clean the engine etc before or after pulling. I can tow to DIY carwash but my driveway is drained/plumbed directly to the creek behind the house.

2) How much clearance/distance needed in front of car to clear engine/trans.

3) How high lowest part of radiator cradle/whatever to clear out engine/trans/subframe as a unit, assuming struts have been disconnected.

4) May need to use engine crane to lift the body and set engine etc onto jack. Rust so bad on donor that normal jackstand points all gone.

5) Balance/jack point for engine/trans?

6) Just measured height of spare engine. With subframe attached it will be over 30". Liking the idea of separating engine from subframe before tilting egine to extract. OK to lift front of car by the engine lift points? If so, could then use sections of 4x4 under floor pan to distribute jack stand load.

7) Weight of shell with all running gear removed?

8) Getting body really high could make loading on trailer for trip to junk yard easier.

Convinced this method good overall, but not a snap. Prolly easier the second time.

If the donor is so rusted, just whack the entire front end off. this is how the car came to me, but it was sooooo easy working on the engine. I just jacked the dolly that was going to hold the engine under the subframe and undid the subframe bolts, came down easy.
