Yo 02 drivers...

Yes, After asking around what would be an ideal size for a set of cromodoras, went and got a set of 185/70/13 tires. The offset if I am not mistaken on the wheels is ET18. Anyhow, the problem is sort of wierd because I see the problem as being a height but not width issue as I had e21 turbines on the car before this with the same size tire. All of a sudden, the wheel well looked very low. I mean not even 2" space there. It started rubbing the tire the moment the car started moving. I had brand new Boge shocks in the back, did not ID the springs, but I am almost certain it is stock (but you never know). The fronts are perfectly good. Now, what would you think is the problem beside ID'ing the spring? BTW are front/rear springs the same (kind of dumb) but good to know...I would hate rolling the fenders, and I doubt if any have done that with 13" tire with that width and wheel offset.

TIA

p.s I have searched the archives and will continue to search for some clue..

Different tires will vary somewhat despite being the same nominal size.

185/70s will generally work on stock wheels, but stock inset is almost twice what you're running - et35 (ish, I think)

there is a difference between front and rear springs. I can't remember, but I think the rears are bit longer

Wow, I'm surprised. I think I was one who had recommended going with 185/70 on the Cromodora. I don't currently have that setup but I have some other ET18 wheels with 185/70 tires on my '73 and absolutely no problems. It sounds like the rear of your car is sitting too low for some reason. Even on my '70 with the Cromodoras and 205/60s it only rubbed when loaded down or cornering hard. Post some pictures and more info on the tires and springs if you can. Also, Paul's comment about how actual tire sizes vary is true. Look at the spec for the tire you have to find out about tread and section width. This may shed some light on the situation. Sorry if I gave you any bad info before. I guess YMMV goes double for wheel and tire fitment.
