I was pulling off the motorway today when my car just cut out completely. Similar to dave75verona's issue below. All the ignition lights on the dash went out and the car had no spark. The starter motor still happily turned over and anything connected to the battery externly from the ignition system (manually operated fan, emergency lights) all work. After a couple of minutes of siting the ignition lights come on and the car would drive again for another 5 minutes. The L (Lectrical) light is not on so I dont think I have a poor alternator. I beleive I have a bad connection or short. Are there any relays or common areas I should look into to find the problem.

Basically the car just shutdowns as though I just turned the key off (no power no blinkers etc). Remains off for 5 minutes then suddenly comes back on..

I need to use this thing for work on monday so any help would be appreciated.

multi meter aka DVOM and wiring diagrahm to make life easier. you could measure the voltage, if you see 8 volts instead of 12 on a circut, that means the volts are there but not a good connection. if you measure o volts you got bad fuse or broken or (dis)connection.

Found the issue - Thanks..

It was the wires around the ignition barrel. The car cut out again today. As soon as I touched the wires around the barrel all the lights came back on. Could not see anything obviously wrong so I removed and tightened everything. Car has been running srong ever since...

So no excuse for work on monday..

cheers
