how hard is it to replace rear shocks my self? can it be done with a jack and some wrenches without taking off the wheels? thanks for the help.

you should reconsider doing the job.

First priority, go out and buy some jackstands. NEVER get under your car without it securely supported.

Loosen the wheel nuts while the car is on the ground, lift it, pull the wheels and make sure it is securely supported. Then you'll need a wrench (15 mm IIRC) and 30 minutes to swap out the shocks.

Good luck.

If you're installing gas shocks (like Bilsteins), DO NOT remove the wire or tie that holds the shock in the compressed position until you have the shock installed on its lower ring mount. Then aim the upper stud (remove the upper washer, rubber spacer and nut) at the hole in the rear wheel arch, and remove the wire/tie. If you're lucky the stud will pop right thru its mounting hole.

Tighten the upper nut just enough so that the rubber washer is slightly compressed. Too much and it'll wear out quickly; too little and it'll cause a thump every time you go around a corner or hit a bump. Easy does it.

Have fun
