It's on now. Time to get out all the hammers and cutting tools. I'll post again after we start. So many folks have mentioned what a bitch the swap is, not worthwhile, and so on...We'll let you know just how big a pain it is for 3 professional mechanics / technicians / '02ers

Budweiser...It's not just for breakfast anymore.

I am curious as well.

The last well documented conversion that I read about mentioned that the whole thing was a PITA.

If someone could come up with a conversion that was not so impossible it would be an great way to get ~150hp twin-cam in our cars. M40/42/44s are not expensive right now.

Way to go Skip. Just remember that it's the gauges that are the real bitch and I hope you all get some breakthrough ideas on that.

Take some weight outta that flywheel in the M42, it's a real pony robbin part for sure.

As long as you have the E30 version with the front sump oil pan and smaller single path manifold, fitting the motor should actually be pretty straightforward. Custom mounts, obviously, and some mods needed to the headers to clear the idler arm. Custom trans setup needed to get the original speedo to work, other than that it's not too bad. Problem is, it's about the same amount of work as an M20 install, and you're still short 30 or so hp and a bunch of torque. Would make for a nice, fun driver than gets good gas mileage, though.
