I'll be sealing my fuel tank in next few days with the POR15 kit. My question is do I leave the drain plug in or do I leave it out and just tape over the opening like the other ones on top of the tank.

If I leave the plug in when I use the sealer, how will the tank drain after the sealer cures? It seems like the sealer will cover the drain hole.

Am i missing something simple here?

Also, will I have to re-tap the holes for the fuel sender and tank siphon screws?

As always, TIA

6 of one, half dozen of the other.

If you pull the plug and tape over the hole, you will need to re-tap the holes to make sure the threads are clean.

If you leave the plug in, after the stuff dries, will you be able to pull the drain plug at all? Will the edges around the hole crack as the plug is roatated?

I would pull the plug and recut the threads.

Use a good rinse afterwards.

Are you going to have that beast ready for the Alpine?

I did that job a few months back. After sloshing the sealer around I flipped the tank so the excess could drain out the filler hole (and painted the bottom of the tank with it). I then undid the small drain plug in the bottom, and only cleaned the thread on the plug. It screwed in fine after the saeler was dry, and does not leak. Beaner7102

That sounds like the way I'll go, I figured I would be re-tapping the fuel sender and siphon threads no matter what I did with the drain plug. I just didn't want to try and poke a hole through the sealer by leaving the drain plug in.

Thanks again for the response, BTW are you attending this weekend's race?
