will the coilovers - or a 2 and a half inch modification of the E-21 323i coil overs fit into the shock towers of a 2002? I know the upper strut tower of the 2002 will have to be drilled and braced for the 323i mounts, but will the springs fit into the shock towers? I have not found the right archive for this question.

Which springs you mean? 2,25" coilovers will fit, 2,5" hmm...maybe not.

But also 323i struts are very tall to be fitted in 02. They would be somewhere on the level of the rear shelf.

the 2.5" spring OD is well over 3", and my remembering of the shock tube is that it's significantly under 3".

But that's just a gut feeling. It wouldn't take too much fabrication to make a proper mount in the top of the inner wheel well- and then you could tie it to the hoop that runs over the arch, adding plenty of strength.

If, of course, it's allowed by the rules you're running under!

If it's a street car, then do it and take pictures for us!

Coilovers in back would make all the spring, shock and suspension travel hijinks seem like bias- ply tires...

I have removed the original springs and installed adjustable height coilovers (Honda Accord type conversion) so the height of the originals will not be a problem. I will be playing with the install this spring. I hope to do a write up with photos for the Forum.
