What is the function of the fan shroud? Is it for safety, keeping those fingers away from the blade? Does it improve the efficiency of the cooling? Or is it an aesthetic thing?

I have to admit, I kind of like the look or the shroud. Sort of a more finished appearence up front.

The shroud improves the flow of air through the radiator core. It was only done on the 75-76 thermal reactor cars which had more heat created due to the thermal reactors used for emission control. You will also notice that the washer bottle is moved on these cars to the left side rear of the engine bay due to the thermal reactors as well.

......it'S TO improve the efficiency of the cooling - VERY FUNCTIONAL

INDEED. With out it you might as well leave the fan blade off.

think about the air flow.
