never seen one on an 02 but in my opinion they look like C.R.A.P. on the cars i've seen. my old benz came with one (straight to the trash it went) the remind me of a cheap toupee. I would just keep your dash treated with something like 303 protectant, or something similar that it a UV resistant. use one of the windshield sunshades when you park, on really hot days crack the window a bit for some airflow. or if you like the look put a rug on it, i'm starting to ramble i must go now. my $.02 wurth.

I put on a cover form www.dashtop.com. These are actually very very thin plastic covers formed from original dash that fit very well, are easy to install, and pretty hard to tell are not OEM dashes - this might be more for if/after cracks form and you need to get back to original, but I think this was a good value at about $130.

I have one that came on my car from the PO.

I immediately pulled it up to trash it, but with cracks in the dash big enough to swallow small children I opted to put it back until I find that cherry 2 piece dash for $100.

Does it look worse than a good dash- YES, without question!!!

Does it look worse than a F'd up dash- Not really, but that is a personal call.

One big advantage for rallying is that ANYTHING with velcro will adhere to the dash and NOT let go. GPS, cell phone, trip CPU...they do not move at all!

Other than the fact that stuff stays put, I don't notice it much at all. Yeah, it may be like your uncle that wears a hideous toupee, but he always has a good story for you and after so many years you don't even notice what's on his head.

I tried that exact covert. It was too long on the ends and too deep, and it was twisted so it would not stay down on one side. I had to take it on and off and trim it to get it to fit. After about a week in the heat, it started to curl up.

For $50 more than I paid for the cover, I got crack-free dash on ebay. With all the crap I went through with the cap, it took about the same amount of time to put the new dash in- but I already had the glass out.

By the way, looking at now, I thing you could cut of the tab that goes under the window-but that`s a new post.

I tried the dash cap on Ebay. It was OK. It needed to be trimmed and looked like, well a cap. I switched it out for the Bav Auto dash mat. I think it looks way better.
