Okay guys here is the eternal question. I have found an original Turbo. I am going to have to redo everything. I am in the car business and I need to look at this as an investment and be able to recoup my $$. I just want to get an idea what you guys think it would be worth all done. I know I know it is a long shot and you all need a lot more info, I also know it is worth what someone is willing to pay yadda yadda. Look at it like this a near perfect resto say a 190 point out of 200 car, not a special vin ie low production number just a turbo back to stock and 100% original. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

i've seen turbos for 24k in good condition and 35k in ex condition it very easy to spend 15k to restore a car. so it depends what you got it for

at 8pm PST and repeated at 11pm PST, called Million Dollar Auction, that really goes into the restoration of cars for Pebble Beach and for the Petersen Museum. Worth a view. I'll make a DVD when it's on later tonight.

Supplement. I'll email you a copy. Turbo's aren't cheap to restore properly but prices are slowly rising. Concours examples are fetching £20,000, to restore one "nut & bolt" will set you back at least a $100,000 so start with a good solid example. Keep me posted. Rich. richstern@hotmail.com

Investing in a car is not a good idea. You'll never recoup what you feel you should be paid.

I understand that cars in general are not the best investment but there are also ways to do it and do it right. I have a 2 years old state of the art body shop as well as body men and painters that I can pay at an hourly rate not a $100 body shop rate, I also get BMW parts at 20% off. I have done a few Camaros etc. and have made a good profit as well as a couple Ferraris but BMWs are my thing, that is me not the shop. Thanks for the input guys keep it coming

Have a look at the one for sale at 2002 AD (www.2002AD.com). Very low miles, I think they want around $35K for it.

I always do it right the second time.

I'd suggest that you talk with Ray Korman (www.kormanfastbmw.com). He did the mechanicals on my turbo and has two more in his shop now. Many turbo components are getting hard to come by, I hear. Apparently, you can do the body work but I think a top builder for the motor is important to you and the value of the car. I am very pleased with my cars performance. It isn't stock!
