ornage. I decided to keep the original glass hood that came with the car because it was the original item and it had provisions for hinges (eventhough it came pinned in 4 locations). I am going to fabricate a hinge assembly and then pin it in the back. On sound advice from numerous people I respect, they assure me that it is a royal PIA to have to take the hood off everytime you need to get to the engine (which in the case of this car is every time you need to start it) and then put it somewhere where it won't get damaged. Currently I am block sanding the hood down to through the gelcoat to get as smooth a surface before it is skim coated, sanded out and re-primed. It's interesting to see how many different colors are coming out of this hood..so far, white, blue (the dark Schnitzer blue), black, red, an aqua color?, and yellow. I suggested at one point that about 50lbs of paint came off of this car when it was media blasted--you can see why.

Hi Mark.

Your friends who advised you to install two front hinges are wise men. My car has 4 pins and spends half the time at track events with the hood off. I have to secure it every time it is removed, often against a tree, another car, a floor jack and it very often falls, gets scratched. You can picture easily it is not fun. Having two front hinges will be a much better solution. Simply build an adjustable aluminum post from camping equipment, and use it to keep the hood open.

rear deck lid. Won't need to get in the back as much as under the hood but still easier to deal with and damage possiblilities are less. I will have spent of course a small fortune in time doing the restoration but I think it will pay off in the end. Not the way Schnitzer ran it but then again I don't have a crew of mechanics working on my car while I sit there.

Are they custom or can they be bought? I was thinking of doing something just like that because of the limited space between my carbs (45's)

and the brake master cylinder.

We have a prop rod for the fiberglass hood on the M2 and every time the wind blows with the hood open, watch out! The hood bounces open to its fullest extent, denting the hell out of the kidney grille and then SLAMS shut. It happens so fast that I've been chomped a few times while under there. Track infields get pretty windy. You might design the rod with a flange + jesus clip at the top so it fixes the hood in place while it's open.

Your car is going to be magnificent when it is done! Each layer of paint you rub back is like an era in time, its history - I catn wait to see this project go forward - the most exciting project happening on here and I love reading about it.

I was wondering if the car will be turbocharged?

throttle metering unit and Kugelfhischer Mechanical Injection--the turbo motors made a lot of power and the cars were wicked fast, but the motors were really tempermental--my check book can't handle that (barely can handle this).

You amy have answered this many times, but I'm new to this forum so.... What is the history of your car? Who where the drivers? Wolfgang May? Do you have any historical pictures?

Those long air horns on Viagra are custom made from M3 S14 horns. There is about 8 hours on them. Cutting, drilling, fitting, polishing. The "air fliters" are 50 cents tea strainers bought from the dollar store. Perfect fit. And the sound is muuuuch deeper. As my girlfriend says, the longer, the better.
