What was the interior and or engine bay color of 1974-75 2002 racecars? I have noticed a lot of Battleship Grey on current rides but what was/is authentic? I can see from historical photos that the rollcage was black, was the interior also black or body color? Schnitzer Mark or Lee any help?

Many old racecars from this era (BMW or not) had minimal race /safety preparation. Most cages were bolt-on with thin tubing. Nothing that can pass today's rigourous norms. Some shells were early (pre-71) tubs, often updated to square light rear panels and front nose. I believe that is such a case with Mark's car. Sometimes, over a long life a car may have had several racing liveries with the engine bay not always updated. But many cars I have seen in pictures (Fisher-Technic among others) have only one colour inside-out.

If a car starts as a bare tub and a cage is welded-in, chances are that the car will be repainted entirely with the cage the same colour as the inside of the car. I my case, I simply stripped and repainted the tub, and added a bolted cage. Engine bay is color matched with the rest of the car. I just happen to like Verona Red, everywhere.

The pictures of the Schnitzer 02 cars (the Gruppe 5 cars anyway) had a low gloss black engine bay, interior, trunk and under carriage. Typically the motorsport Gruppe 5 320's were painted similarly (Privateer cars varied however)

Thanks guys.

Sounds like anything goes. I have seen so many SCCA cars (including the roller I bought for parts) and other street machines with Battleship Grey, I thought that might be it. I'll stick with my original plan then and paint it the body color.

Great photos...always looking to borrow ideas on layout.

Thanks

car.... I know a number of people that were interested in possibly buying it, he apparently could never come up with the paperwork documenting the cars authenticity. I have looked at a number of photo's of that car -really nicely prepared by someone, not Schnitzer though, pedals, trans tunnel and air jacks just to name a few--but then that is another story. The pics posted above are from the #6 car sitting in Schnitzer's showroom! (note the pedals and the rest). Still, to the original subject, other than Schnitzer which did their interiors etc., in black many of the others did them in various colors.

BTW I'm still in the research phase and am gathering as much info as I can from the wonders of the WWW. But, did you guys know that the E30 BBS 13 inch modular wheels (like the ones on the Fischer Technik car) are being reproduced by a German co. called HTN? They are very expensive, but so are the originals in well worn shape. http://www.htn-felgen.de/start/html/body_ks_design.html

Not cast but machined Aluminum?

The picture is the 15 inch so it looks a little out of scale, but the 13s look nice.

Anyone know how to say "Group Buy" in German?
