Hi Guys I have a RHD 02 Touring with the cursed Twin Remote Brake servos. Im thinking of converting to the E34 Master Cylinder and booster off a RHD E34. I would have to use the rods going across the bulkhead like RHD E34's of course but I recon its do-able has anyone experence of using the E34 servo in a 02?

Thanks Guys,

Rob.

I have seen quite a few E30 & E36 DTM cars with dual setups... would that not be a good thing??

I have 2 RHD cars (in Australia) and have no problems with the twin servos, I believe they work better than the single, check your Mike McCartney book for his write up (if you have one). You can get new RHD servos from Jaymic in the UK. http://www.jaymic.com/shop/parts_02.asp. I'd stick with them - or is that stop with them ;) Beaner7102

I think RHD Mk1 GTi's used a similar set-up with a rod going across the bulkhead and it was always to blame for spongy feeling brakes. I'm sure BMW probably solved the inherent weakness with a set-up like this, but it's compromise engineering however you look at it.

My RHD Touring uses the slightly larger twin remote servos from an e12. As far as I can remember they're cheaper to buy, supposed to be far more reliable than the 02 units, and I've had trouble free motoring with them for about 4 years.

Not heard good things about re-built 02 servos.

do you have any more info on those e12 units Nick? been looking at the servos off my tii (with a view to rebuilding them) but the are looking less than ideal. what model/year would i have to look at for the e12s? cheers.

Have a chat with your dealer, but I think you'll find all RHD e12 models had the same twin servos. You'll have to adapt/make brackets though as they're slightly larger, but I have mine fitted in the same spot, although it might be a bit tighter with the bettery in the stock place (mines in the boot).

Looking through realoem.com, it appears that the early 4 cyl E12s had the same servos as the '02, and the 6cyl E12 had the larger servos. Realoem, however, has both types as NLA. I found out recently that rebuild kits for the ATE 50 Servos are also NLA.

Walloth & Nesch had a special on Servos a while back, unfortunately their special price was waaaay up there.

I really want to keep my Touring stock but if the Servos give up I may just have to think about that.

If you manage to rig something up, keep us RHD '02 Owners posted.

Les, thanks for that info. I shall probably be going to have a chat with the local dealership at the weekend, will let you know if there's any good news to be had. Cheers
