I pulled my motor out and brought it to Terry Tinney in Livermore. For around 3 thousand he installed 9.5:1 piano tops, reground 278 cam, new sach's sport clutch kit, bored, honed, decked, planed, polished crank and head, reassembled and balanced the entire assembly. Not bad IMO.

Not only is is bullet proof and reliable it pulls like mad. I havent been in that many 2002's but so far this is the fastest one.

sorry to branch off the topic...Yeah, I've been thinking of asking him to work on my motor- he's a good friend of a guy who I'm renting a shop out with-- cool guy who knows his stuff.

Did you provide Terry with all the parts, or were they supplied and that was just labor?

My engine was done by ireland about 6 years ago before I bought it, and it cost around 4500. Still can't locate the invoice to see if that included parts or not, or what was done all together.

He took care of everything for me, parts, ordering, etc. Often times he found better prices than me (he is in the industry after all). I am also happy with the 278 regrind he recommended. I still wanted the car to idle well but also perform, so we went with only a 278 degree lift but with longer durations (especially on the exhaust side) makes it very streetable.

wow-- that is NOT a bad deal at all then

Considering factory reman's are going for 3-4K arent they?

He's the man. 3 grand is nothing considering what he did and how helpful he was. He even delivered the motor to my shop in SF because he had push back a day or two due to another customer's prior needs. Since I was in no rush I was much obliged.

i had my engine replaced with a factory remanufactured. this was about 8 or 9 years ago. the engine i believe was purchase from a BMW dealer in Sunnyvale or Mountain View, Calfornia. i believe the engine cost $1500 or $1800. It cost me all in all almost $4,000 for the engine, parts and labor. The engine runs fine even today. but the other parts like the EGR, carb, exhaust manifold, leaking transmission etc that are still problem. The BMW repair shop (not a dealer) who replaced my engine did not do a good job. I strongly recommend that you get it it done at shop that is well recommended by those that have had their BMW engine replaced otherwise you will have recurring nightmares.
