90 cents from the local hardware store, a little polishing, and voila!

I had just put in that stereo (which is great), and realized it was way too shiny for the dash, and needed balanced out. For miatas (my other car), you can get lots of such little shiny aftermarket bits, but haven't seen any for 02s.

So I just took my old button to the hardware store, and sized it up with various washers. I ended up with 'machine bushings,' size 3/4" x 1 1/4" I think, 45 cents each.. They were pretty rough, so I filed, sanded, polished, then stuck them on with a little epoxy. Not perfect, but it covers up the faded/rubbed off painted ring around the buttons, and the weird writing in the circle around the hazard switch.

edit: in case your wondering, the vinyl panel with security light was installed by PO, and the light just blinks while car is off, and makes you think security system is there. The ring around the light was black and rusty, but I polished it too. And yes, that is electrical tape wrapped around. I covered up a hole in it that I had cut open to install a starter button while my wiring was screwy. Now I just use the key.

Nice look KFunk, these cars look good with chrome higlights. I have an early 71' with the chrome strip across the front of the dash - not too bling at all. Beaner7102

whatever you do, don't press it! you're lucky someone removed it before someone pressed it by mistake!

nah, j/k. It does absolutely nothing, just a plastic panel with no wires. I think I read that in euro cars or something there's a button to turn on fog lights...

by the way for those that can't tell, its an Alpine stereo, you can't see the logo at the top right due to the glare. Sure its a bit modern looking, but I loved the simple metallic look while having modern quality. I coulda got a new 2006 alpine model, but they were too cheesy looking.

Plus, the Alpine theme goes well with my momo wheel, recaros, bilsteins, etc. Only the top brands! Nah, not really trying to go for bling bling, thats just how things ended up.
