Hello,

What would you say is a fair value is for a complete Alpina a4 set-up ? butterfly- trumpets - pump - etc . All complete.

Best regards

I would say anywhere from $2000 to $5000 USD depending on a lot of factors - condition being a big one - as well as motivation of seller, does it include the A4 airbox (and if it does, is the airbox for an 02 or an e21), etc.

It really can range, but they aren't inexpensive.

but these units are 30 years old. Some will have air leakage around the shafts and the butterflys are worn.

If you are buying and do buy the set-up, Beiker Engineering in Oregon is the only firm I could find to rebuild the a4 unit and re-cut the butterflies. He did an incredible job and at an extremely fair price. He does Webers by trade but tackled these with out a hitch.

Price, like Jason said a wide range $2000 - $5,000. The linkage is also extremely important too.

They are not easy to set up either. THey are completely different from the tii. I have reference material for set up if you get that interested.

Hello again,

I will be selling one , Doesnt have an air box it has the red trumpets. All in good nick and I will post some pics. I am going to post it onto ebay to try and get best price as it has proved a costly mistake ( Teach me to impulse buy without looking at my racing regs first !! )

Your auction presentation really didn't help. You wrote that it was a complete system but it certainly looked like only the set of A4 TBs was on offer. Why no pics of the Alpina-recalibrated Kugelfischer pump and the rest of the linkage to go with it? Red flags! The lack of bidder confidence in your cursory and incomplete presentation of a technically complex big-ticket item is reflected in the low price it brought. Besides, the high-side estimates you got were probably for systems in known-excellent functional and cosmetic condition complete with the airbox, so you actually did reasonably well in spite of yourself. You did say "a complete Alpina a4 set-up ? butterfly- trumpets - pump - etc . All complete. " (emphasis mine)

Blimey keep your hair on !!! I thought the pump was identical from the outside just the inners were different? The reason I am so gutted it that the buyer did offer a substantal amount more for the items but allowing the auction to run and playing fair ( Not false bidding which seems to be be pretty common these days ) I openly lost that money . Yep my fault . And I was as honest as I could be when listing the items as I dont really know that much about the injection systems. Apoliges if my comment seem to rub you up the wrong way..Nothing meant by it.

Sorry, I thought you might have been whining. Anyway, maybe you learned something for next time and others might benefit from the example, too. Whether or not to end an auction and accept an offer is an outright gamble that in this case did not pay off. It's not really an ethical issue, unlike shill bids but shills only benefit the seller, anyway.
