Does anyone know how to remove the ring so that can replace my steering shaft bearing? I'm talking about number 7 in the RealOEM picture

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ST12&mospid=47140&btnr=32_0973&hg=32&fg=30

I would try to drive it off, but it seems to be part of the shaft itself. The bearing won't slide off the other end either.

Thanks,

Gabe

I will go get a better gear puller tomorrow and try that. If anyone has ever done it, I just want to make sure that's how it comes off. For a second I thought it might be threaded or something. Underneth it lies a circlip and then I can take everything off of the shaft.

TIA,

Gabe

Knock it a bit to get it loose, no puller needed because it is not pressed on.

Yours might be wedged tight on clip underneath it.

Did you get the new bearing already? They almost never go bad.

I changed the bearing in the one pictured, but really it was just overkill.

I'm going to try banging it off again. Yes I ordered a new bearing. $100 seems kind of pricey, but it's another one of those things that I figure I'll replace while I have it apart.

Your's looks very nice by the way. Was it difficult removing the ignition lock cylinder? I hope that the new set I ordered will come complete with the wheel lock.

with a little bit of coercion from the vise.

I don't know if I'm still on track for driving this thing this summer, but things like this don't help. Anyway I guess I'm learning.

BTW, in case I didn't mention before, I don't think my sterring column had that plate either John_W or whoever.
