What Kind of glue do you all use to install door seals? Do new seals come with glue strips, or do you have to glue them in. My original seals were glued and are in pretty good shape. I just don't know what to use.

The 3M stuff is easy to find at autoparts stores. It's literally called "weatherstrip adhesive" and indeed available in yellow or black. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter - ie: apply to one surface, press together to get the adhesive on the second part, then separate for a minue or two and allow it to tack up, before the "final bonding".

When I've done door and trunk seals - I get a roll of 1" wide masking tape, to hold the seal in position as the adhesive dries. Work SLOWLY - doing only 2-3 inches at a time. Let it dry - then move on. I start in the upper corner, where it needs to be perfectly aligned, then put adhesive ONLY on the lower portion of the B pillar, and along the front hinge area. You shouldn't need adhesive anywhere else - as the metal channels on the car hold the seal in place very well. Get a nylon / plastic putty knife to work the lip of the seal into the grooves on the car. If it doesn't seem like it's in 100% engaged....it isn't. Keep working at it. My hands hurt after doing this kind of stuff...and I'm in no hurry to have Carpal Tunnel surgery on my OTHER hand!

Good Luck....just be patient!

Rob Rob Rob....are you f*cking kidding????

ACETONE will take the mutherfinging PAINT right off the damn CAR!!!!!!

Use 3M adhesive remover, then wipe thoroughly dry. Clear permatex never worked very well for me personally. You can't go wrong with the 3M stuff.

could you use the same stuff for other rubber seals, like the hood side seals, or trunk seals, etc?

Brush makes the job easier. Wurth is the best and comes in a can with brush. If you go with some other contact adhesive, buy a 1/2" acid brush. Clean up is easier if you mask first. When applying the strip keep in mind where it will end so you don't finish too long or too short. Be extra careful to not stretch the rubber at the corners. Why not just use adhesive remover to remove adhesive? It's on the shelf near the glue.

Got em in. What a mission. Got the yellow stuff, I thought was clear, and went ahead with it. Did a pretty good job, I think, but it wasn't easy. I used the yellow 3m stuff and some clear silicone sealant that came in an Ez-Cheese style bottle. i used the 3m yellow stuff at first and got it down, then I went back under the seams with the silicone sealant. Seems like it is on there pretty good, but geez it took like all Saturday. I got 4 looong days into the rebuild and it's almost done. The wondow gaskets and door seals were the worst part, with the drip rail chrome trim coming in a close second. The radio is being stubborn and the dash is pretty much bolted back together. All seals are installed, and the carpet is in, next I have to bolt the seats in and finish out the radio and dash. Later I'll do the fun stuff like the electronic ignition, weber sync link, mud flaps, chrome trim, Alloy wheels and she'll be pretty much done. Restorations are a pretty grueling process and I'm excited about getting it on the road and get back cruisin'. Learned alot though, which was kind of part of it. I'll take pictures when I'm finished and let you all be the judge how it looks.
